Here’s something you need to know. When the ownership of a property is transferred, the buyer's lawyer must contact Horizon Utilities Corporation to provide the relevant property transfer information and to request a final water meter read. It's important that the final read is an actual read and not an estimate. Contact our Customer Service department at 905-522-9200.
An actual and final meter read ensures all parties involved in the property transfer are aware of any outstanding water and wastewater balances, and are aware of any compliance issues consistent with the City of Hamilton's Water Works By-law R84-026 (such as the replacement of obsolete equipment). Failing which, all past outstanding balances and property Water Works By-law compliance issues are transferred with the property and become the responsibility of the buyer.
