Horizon Utilities Corporation has always been committed to ensuring a safe work environment. Our implementation of an occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) that supports the CSA Z1000 standard takes our promise one step further. This national standard includes a framework for developing and implementing an OHSMS, and encourages a systematic approach to managing occupational health and safety issues.
Last year, our employees won successive Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA) "President's Awards" for every 250,000 hours worked without a lost-time injury. We ended 2014 having achieved a significant milestone- 750,000 hours worked without a lost-time injury.

In 2011, for the second time, we surpassed one million hours worked without a lost-time injury. This milestone is a tribute to the attention and dedication placed on safety by our employees and the company which we achieved for the first time, in 2009.
In 2014, we provided electrical safety awareness to 32 elementary schools in our service area, educating thousands of students about the dangers of power lines and electricity. We further partner with the My Safe Work Foundation to educate high school students of their rights to workplace safety when they enter the workplace for the first time.
