Changes to your electricity bill: Ontario Electricity Rebate

Starting November 1, 2019, the Government of Ontario changed how subsidies are presented on electricity bills for residential and small business customers. All subsidies provided under the Ontario Rebate for Electricity Consumers Act, 2016 are now combined in a new line item named “Ontario Electricity Rebate.”

Residential customers will continue to have the new rebate applied and need not take any further action.

Your bill now shows the full price of electricity, and the combined subsidy of approximately 32 per cent is applied to the pre-tax bill amount. OESP customers will also see a line item for the total Ontario support that they receive. Electricity consumption up to October 31 will be rebated under the old program, so during the transition you will see both rebates listed on your bill.
