Outdoor Safety

  • Don’t go boating when a thunder storm appears likely.
  • Overhead power lines could be a hazard when your boat being towed.
  • While on the water, be aware of power lines and cables that cross rivers or channels.
  • If electrical wires are located within 3 meters of the edge of your swimming pool (measured horizontally), there must be 4.5 meters of vertical clearance between the wires and the highest point of the pool area. This includes diving boards, slides, fences and decks.
  • If you're putting in a swimming pool, underground wiring must not be closer than 1.5 meters from the inside wall of the pool.
  • Keep lawnmower and edger cords in good repair. If you run over the cord, turn off the mower. Unplug immediately.
  • Avoid catching lawnmower blades or trimmer strings on hidden objects.
  • Educate your kids about safety. When a kite or model airplane, or even the string or control wire, touches an overhead line, it could be fatal.
