Smart Meters - An Integral Part of
Ontario's Energy Plan
Horizon Utilities Corporation is
proud to support the provincial government's goal of installing a
smart meter in every Ontario home and small business by 2010.
Smart meter technology will help consumers better manage their
electricity use, encourage energy conservation, and assist in
curbing climate change.
To date over 75,000 smart meters
have been installed within the Horizon Utilities service territory. By the end of 2008, 145,000 of our 233,000 customers will have a smart meter.
The information on these pages is
designed to assist you in understanding how smart meters and
information about your energy consumption can help you change your
energy usage patterns in order to reduce peak demand in Ontario
and save money on your electricity bill. Click here

Smart Meter Installations
Our next wave of smart meter
deployments will take place during the period of April to June
2008 and will involve installing 20,000 smart meters in the
communities of Dundas and West Hamilton Mountain areas. Please
view the maps below to review the specific targeted deployment
areas.
In addition to the mass
deployment of smart meters, whenever a traditional hydro meter in
any area of Horizon's service territory requires replacement, it
will be replaced with a smart meter. As well, all new homes will
have smart meter installed at the time of connection.
