February 15, 2007: If you are purchasing your energy through a retailer and have noticed an increase in your bill, please read this notice.

If you are purchasing your energy through an energy retailer, you may have noticed a recent increase on the electricity line on your bill. This increase may have occurred because the initial contract you signed with a retailer has now expired. If you renew your contract(s) with a retailer, you are no longer eligible for regulated pricing and will be charged the retailer contract price on your invoice. The new contract price may, in some cases, be considerably higher than your previous contract or regulated price.

If you have signed or renewed your contract over the telephone with a retailer, your action is considered to be a legally binding contract and penalties could be charged if you request to cancel the contract. Please refer to your contract with the retailer for details about their cancellation penalties.

If you need to discuss your contract with the retailer, or if you believe a renewal was done without your authorization, you should contact the retailer at their number which is printed on your bill.

If you do not get satisfaction from the retailer you should then contact the Ontario Energy Board and lodge a complaint. They can be reached by telephone at 1-877-632-2727 or by email at:

An Important Message from Horizon Utilities Corporation
about Energy Marketers

Horizon Utilities is very concerned about the approach some energy marketers may be taking as they go door to door, selling electricity contracts, in Hamilton and St. Catharines. Some Retailers may be giving the false impression that they represent Horizon Utilities. Horizon Utilities delivers the electricity to your home or business in Hamilton and St. Catharines, we do not sell or retail electricity and we do not have representatives going door to door. If you would like information about energy options or have any concerns about the conduct of an energy retailer, please contact the Ontario Energy Board at:
