Horizon Utilties Corporation System
and Network Operations Centre

Horizon Utilities has two state-of-the-art Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems located in the Hamilton and St. Catharines Operations Centres to ensure the safe, secure reliable delivery of electricity to our customers. In the past year, the Operations Centre has hosted groups from as far away as Japan who are interested in the SCADA system.

SCADA monitors and controls the electrical network 24 hours a day, immediately reporting abnormal conditions from our remote terminal units in our substations and on poles. Our SCADA operators then act quickly to isolate and resolve the problem.

SCADA transfers loads through our own citywide communications network, which has been a part of Horizon Utilities for over 30 years. The network recently was upgraded with fibre optic cable technology, as part of Horizon's continuous improvement program.
