Board Chair
Robert Dolan

Consultant in Human Resources Strategy and Executive Search . Currently in his own firm, RFD Partners Inc.; previously worked as National Practice Leader, Knightsbridge Human Capital, a management consulting firm. Former Senior Vice- President, Corporate Services, Canadian National. Mr. Dolan was responsible for Human Resources and Information Technology at CN. He has previously held senior executive positions at John Labatt Ltd. and the Bank of Montreal. He is a Director of Global Container Terminals, a subsidiary of the Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan, with investments in both Canada and the U.S.

Ed Minich

Former President and CEO of Otis Canada Inc. and past-Chair of McMaster University Board of Governors. Mr. Minich serves on the boards of the Oakville Hospital Foundation, Tradeport International Corporation and the Hamilton Port Authority. He graduated with a B.Sc. and MBA from McMaster University and, in 2004, was honoured with a Doctor of Laws degree from McMaster. In 2005, Mr. Minich obtained his Chartered Director (C. Dr.) designation.

Robert Cary

Consultant providing services in electricity markets and on related commercial issues. Mr. Cary contributed to the development of market design and market rules for electricity markets in Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and has provided related services in other jurisdictions. His ongoing work is focused on market interface, contractual arrangements and financing of gas fired generation facilities in Ontario. Mr. Cary is a Director of APPrO (the Association of Power Producers of Ontario), as well as St. Catharines Hydro Inc. and its generation subsidiary. Mr. Cary is a Professional Engineer, and a Chartered Director, and holds an MA Degree from Cambridge and an MBA from Cranfield.

Karen Belaire

Chief Operating Officer for London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care, London since August 2009. Previously the Vice President, Administration for McMaster University (2000-2009). Karen has an extensive background in administration and management in healthcare. Her career has taken her from Toronto East General Hospital to Credit Valley Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton. Karen holds a CGA designation and an MBA. Karen values governance and the role of the Board. Having completed the Conference Board of Canada/DeGroote School of Business Directors College, she is a Chartered Director and her board experience includes Theatre Aquarius, St. Peters Hospital, McMaster Innovation Park, Gore District Land Trust, McMaster Museum of Art, and CAA Southwestern Ontario.

President and CEO of Benson Van Laer & co., a financial advisory firm and member of Delta Capital, Paul is also an owner and Chairman of Amphibico Group Inc., a manufacturer of underwater videography equipment and a manufacturer of water ration heating units for militaries. Former President of Canadian Corporate Funding Limited and a senior partner at Ernst & Young LLP. Mr. Benson has held directorships in various corporations including Oakville Hydro corporation, Canadian corporate Funding Limited, Association of Corporate Growth and UNICEF Canada. Mr. Benson is a Chartered Accountant with a B.Comm. (Hons) from Queen's University.

Commissioner of Corporate Services for the Regional Municipality of Niagara. John has served as President of Lennox Canada Inc., President & CEO of Union Gas Limited, President of Massey Ferguson Research Ltd., and Columbus McKinnon Limited. John currently sits on the Boards of St. Catharines Hydro Inc., Pioneering Technology Corp., the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA), Niagara Health System Foundation, and has served over 20 years on the Board of Governors of the University of Waterloo, including a term as Board Chair. He also served his community on the Boards of the Stratford Festival of Canada, Ontario Great Lakes Renewal Foundation, the Canadian Urban Institute and various United Ways across Ontario.

Mr. Crowley is a seasoned professional with a solid combination of strategic and financial leadership skills. He is a graduate of the Richard Ivey School of Business, a Chartered Accountant and a graduate of the Directors Education Program holding the designation of ICD.D. Mr. Crowley is currently Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of OMERS Administration Corporation and is a director of several not-for-profit corporations, private and public companies.

Douglas J. Harrison

President of Calyx Transportation Group Inc. which owns eight of Canada's leading transportation and logistics companies. Doug is a Graduate of the Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation (CITT), and holds a number of other transportation and logistics designations. Doug has been awarded the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, and is a graduate of the CMA's certification program. Doug has been recognized as one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 leaders, and was honoured by the Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation with its Award of Excellence. Doug holds an MBA from Heriot-Watt University (Scotland), and is a graduate of Mohawk College's Business Administration program. Doug is a member of the Conference Board of Canada's board of directors and Mohawk College's Board of Governor.

Margaret T. Nelligan

Partner of Aird & Berlis LLP. Practices in the areas of corporate and securities law, including investments for financial institutions, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate work. Ms. Nelligan is a former member of the Securities Advisory Council of the Ontario Securities Commission and is an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School. She has been selected for the Women in the Lead directory, featuring women whose professional expertise and experience recommend them as candidates for corporate board appointments. She regularly advises the boards of directors of public companies on corporate governance and other matters. Ms. Nelligan is recognized as a "Woman of Influence" by Women of Influence Inc., a Canadian organization dedicated to the advancement of women.

Joan Weppler

Former Vice President of Dofasco, Inc. overseeing human resources, government relations, communications and legal matters. Prior to this, Ms. Weppler was a partner at a national law firm based in Toronto. She has served on several boards of directors for a variety of companies and on the executive committee of her law firm. Ms. Weppler earned her B.A. and law degree from the University of Western Ontario.

Max Cananzi
President & CEO of Horizon Utilities Corporation. Mr. Cananzi has over 20 years experience in the energy and utility sector. Mr. Cananzi has been a strong advocate for electric utility consolidations in Ontario. His current focus is on growing the business through mergers and acquisitions with like-minded utility partners and on delivering sustainable and innovative energy solutions for customers. He is currently a Director on the boards of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA), Electricity Distributors Association (EDA), and MEARIE, an electrical reciprocal insurance exchange. He is a Professional Engineer with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He holds an MBA in Finance from York University.

John Basilio

Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Horizon Utilities Corporation. Mr. Basilio's previous work experience was primarily in the asset-backed financial services sector supporting business strategy and development with functional responsibilities in treasury, corporate finance, financial reporting, risk management, and corporate taxation. He received his designation as a Chartered Accountant while working with Ernst & Young, has completed the CICA In-Depth Tax Course, and has a Bachelor of Commerce and Finance degree from the University of Toronto. Mr. Basilio is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and Financial Executives International.

Indy Butany-DeSouza

Vice-President, Regulatory and Government Affairs. Prior to joining Horizon in 2009, Ms. Butany-DeSouza worked at Carbon Capital Management providing strategic direction to this carbon markets start-up company. She has close to ten years of industry experience in the electricity sector and managed local distribution company (LDC) and retailer market readiness for the opening of the Ontario retail market for power in 2002. Following this, she built the Regulatory Compliance team for EPCOR and spent five years at Direct Energy in several key roles including Government and Regulatory Affairs, Market Development and Direct Energy Consulting. Ms. Butany-DeSouza holds an Honours Bachelor of Science and an MBA in Finance and Strategy from McMaster University.

Eileen Campbell

Vice President, Customer Services. Ms. Campbell began her career in the electricity industry with Hamilton Hydro Inc. She has wide experience in a number of operational areas that directly affect the company's customers, and has demonstrated a strong personal commitment to customer service. She is currently responsible for metering and customer connections, customer service and billing, and conservation and demand management. She serves on the Conservation and Demand Management Caucus of the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA), and on the Customer Council of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA). Ms. Campbell has a diploma in Management Studies (McMaster University, Hamilton), and has completed an Ontario Management Development Program at Hamilton's Mohawk College.

Neil Freeman

Vice President, Business Development. Mr. Freeman has extensive business and management experience in the electric industry, including working with the Ontario Power Authority on integration of electricity planning into other provincial and municipal planning exercises. His expertise includes business development, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory issues. Mr. Freeman is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, and received his PhD from the University of Toronto. He is the author of The Politics of Power: Ontario Hydro and its Government, 1906-95 (University of Toronto Press, 1996).

Sarah Hughes

Vice-President, Finance. Prior to joining Horizon Utilities Corporation in June 2003, Ms. Hughes was Vice-President, Finance of Headline Media Group Inc., a specialty television broadcaster, where she played a key financial role in the company's $30 million public offering. Ms. Hughes is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and is a graduate of the University of Waterloo with a Masters in Accounting and Bachelor of Arts. Ms. Hughes serves on the Finance and Corporate Issues Council of the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA), and on the Finance and Accounting Committee of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA).

Marjorie Richards

Vice-President of Corporate Services and Corporate Secretary to the Board of Directors. Formerly General Manager and Finance Officer of Ancaster Hydro-Electric Commission. Ms. Richards sits on the Human Resources Council for the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA), is Corporate Chair for the Lung Association, sits on the Board of Directors for the Industry Education Council and St. Joseph's Health System and is Chair of the Board of Directors for St. Joseph's Home Health Care.
