Energy Saving Tips: Small Appliances

Toaster Ovens
  • Toaster ovens are perfect for heating up small quantities of food and use much less energy than a regular oven.
Microwave Ovens
  • By using your microwave you can save up to 50% of your cooking energy costs compared to using a regular oven. You will also dramatically decrease your cooking times.
  • Remember, microwaves cook from the outside edge towards the center of the dish, so if you're cooking more than one item, place larger and thicker items on the outside.
Electric Kettles
  • Use an electric kettle to heat water. It is more energy efficient than using the stovetop or even a microwave.
  • If you are purchasing a new kettle, choose one that has an auto shut-off and an insulated handle.
  • Mineral buildup can impact on the efficiency of your kettle. Regularly clean your kettle with a mixture of boiling water and vinegar.
