Energy Saving Tips: Holiday Lights

LED outdoor and indoor lighting

Long-lasting, cool-touch LED lights last approximately 200,000 hours, provide an 80 - 90 percent energy savings over conventional holiday lighting and are available at hardware chains and many other stores throughout the area.

Here are some tips to make it a safe as well as a bright holiday

  • Only use outdoor rated lights outdoors and indoor rated lights indoors.
  • Be sure your LED lights (or any lighting) are CSA listed and approved for the intended use.
  • When you're putting up holiday lights, be particularly careful when carrying your ladder. Even touching a ladder that contacts a power line could be fatal.
  • Also, be sure you use an outdoor extension cord for all outdoor lighting and discard cracked or discoloured extension cords and lighting sets.
