Joining the peaksaver^® program means you can help reduce the demand for electricity in your community. And you'll feel great knowing you're doing something good for the environment.

It's no sweat to participate. Just sign up and allow Horizon Utilities to enroll you in the peaksaver^® program. Participating in the program not only allows you greater control of your personal environment with the unique remote access feature of the peaksaver^® thermostat. It helps reduce the strain on the provincial electricity system on days when central air conditioner's electricity use is near its peak.

A professional technician will come to your residence or business and install a programmable thermostat valued at $250.00 for FREE!! A peaksaver^® activation event could take place up to 10 times between May and Sept. between 12 p.m. and 10 p.m. but never on weekends or holidays. During an activation, your new thermostat will allow Horizon Utilities and the Ontario Power Authority to send a wireless signal to temporarily alter the central air conditioner's compressor cycle to 15 minutes on then 15 minutes off for 4 hours. However, your circulating fan will not be interrupted, helping ensure any change in building occupant comfort level will be kept to a minimum.

In addition and with your permission we can add a switch to your electric hot water tank that will further add to peak load reduction. During a peaksaver^® activation event the power would be turned off to the electric water heater for 3 hours.

To be eligible you must be a homeowner of a single-family home or small business property owner with a central cooling system. We'll do all the work at no expense or inconvenience to you. In fact, you'll even receive a one time Horizon Utilities account credit of $25 just for signing up.
